HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Our Lady & St Francis Catholic College (OSCCO), Osogbo is a co-educational school, owned by the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo under the proprietorship of Most Rev. John Akin Oyejola, the Catholic Bishop of Osogbo Diocese. The College was established by Most Rev. Julius Babatunde Adelakun, the then Bishop of old Oyo Diocese before his transfer to Oyo while the proprietorship of the College was taken over by Most Rev. Gabriel Leke Abegunrin when Osogbo Diocese was created in May, 1995. Having secured the required approval from the Osun State Ministry of Education, the College officially opened for academic programmes in the 1993/94 Academic session precisely on 10th January, 1994 with Chief Paul Adesina Famoyin(JP, KSM) as its first Principal. The School was established to achieve moral and academic excellence, thereby providing qualitative secondary education for the increasing number of primary school pupils irrespective of sex, social, religious or ethnic affiliations; preparing the students for higher education, useful living and effective leadership roles in the society.
Since 1996, the College has been graduating students with excellent performance so much that it ranks among the ten best Secondary Schools in Nigeria by performance in West African Senior School Certificate Examinations and NECO Senior School Certificate Examinations since 2002. It has equally won several laurels at various levels of different competitions. In 2009, the International Academy for the Gifted LTD/GTE certified the College as a viable Training Institution for Gifted Pupils as a result of its performance in the 2009 May/June WASSCE. More than that, it is a training ground for the ‘average’ and ‘below-average’ students as well.
It is great to note that the school produced the overall best candidate in WASSCE 2012 in person of Miss Oginni Mary Folafoluwa and thus she won the prestigious Meritorious Award of Excellence from the examination body for that year. She equally won a bronze award for being the best female candidate in the said examination. Not too long from then, the school broke another good ground in 2015 when it produced another overall best candidate in NECO SSCE in person of Alabi Phillip Toluwase and thus he won the prestigious NECO – Learn Africa Award of Excellence for that year. The school equally produced the best Teacher for the year 2015 in person of Dr. Paul Olatunde Oyebiyi, who is the school’s Vice Principal, Academic. It is also good to note that Alabi Phillip Toluwase won the 2nd position nationwide in the 2015 WASSCE Meritorious Award of Excellence. Since the inception of NECO, OSCCO has been in the fore front producing the best students in Osun State. There is no year that OSCCO does not produce students among the best three in the state. To this end we say, great indeed are your works Oh Lord, now and ever more. To God be the glory.
The school had been administered by seasoned and committed administrators since its inception. Among them are Late Rev. Sr. Mary Raphael Swan(OSF), who was the first school administrator, Chief P.A Famoyin (KSM), the pioneer Principal, 1994 – August 2003; Rev. Sr. Henrietta Eziashi(OSF), September 2003 – August 2006; Rev. Fr. Ambrose Olasinde, September 2006 – August 2008; and Rev. Fr. Felix Olaniyan, September 2008 – 9th August 2016. Rev. Fr. Peter Akinsanya, who is the current Principal, was transferred to the school on 9th August, 2016.

The College celebrated the 25th anniversary of her existence with a year-long programme between 10th December, 2017 and 11th January, 2019.
